At the age of 50, renowned Ukrainian athlete Hennadiy Horbenko has passed away.

This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Athletics Federation.

The cause of his death has not been disclosed.

Horbenko had a remarkable career, famously becoming the first junior world champion in athletics from independent Ukraine.

The 1994 Junior World Championships took place in Lisbon, where Hennadiy excelled in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 50.56 seconds, finishing 0.29 seconds ahead of Hungary's Miklós Róth.

He was a multiple national champion in this event and participated in the 2000 Olympic Games, where he achieved a personal best of 48.40 seconds in the semifinals, finishing eighth in the final.

Additionally, Horbenko represented Ukraine at the 2003 Universiade, where he won a gold medal.
