On March 8, the final of the European Indoor Athletics Championships took place in the men's high jump, where Ukrainian jumper Oleg Doroshchuk claimed the gold medal by clearing a height of 2.34 meters.
This marks Ukraine's first gold in the history of the European Championships for indoor high jump. Oleg also set a new personal record, surpassing his previous best of 2.32 meters.
His compatriot, Dmytro Nikitin, finished in 5th place with a height of 2.26 meters.
The silver medal was won by Czech athlete Jan Steffela, who jumped 2.29 meters. The bronze went to Italian Matteo Sioli, also achieving 2.29 meters. The competitors of the Ukrainian matched the same height, but the Czech used fewer attempts.

In the qualification round, athletes cleared the bar at 2.23 meters, while Vadym Kravchuk did not qualify for the final.
This was Doroshchuk's first career appearance in the finals of the European Indoor Athletics Championships. Meanwhile, Nikitin competed for the second time for medals at the indoor European Championships, having previously finished 5th in 2021 with a result of 2.23 m.
It is worth noting that yesterday, Yaroslav Maguchikh advanced to the women's high jump final, achieving the shortest qualification in her career.
