The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has announced that Alexander Usyk has chosen to relinquish his WBO heavyweight championship title. Currently, Usyk's team has not provided any comments. According to WBO's statement, the Ukrainian boxer Alexander Usyk is no longer the WBO champion.
WBO expresses its deep respect and gratitude towards Alexander Usyk — the undefeated, two-time WBO world champion in two weight classes, who embodies honor and dignity in modern boxing.
"For WBO, it is a great honor to have a champion of Usyk's caliber both in the ring and outside of it. He represents discipline, integrity, and patriotism.
Usyk is a source of pride for the people of Ukraine and a true ambassador of boxing.
We respect his decision to step away from the WBO heavyweight title.
This is not a farewell, but rather a respectful pause, as his team has indicated. The doors of WBO will always remain open for Usyk and his team.
We look forward to the return of such a champion," the statement reads.
WBO notes: "His place in WBO history and in global boxing heritage is secured forever."
As of now, Usyk's team has not provided any comments.
The Ukrainian boxer still holds the IBF, WBA, and WBC titles.
