Diana Yastremska (30) is scheduled to compete in the WTA 500 tournament next week in Tokyo, Japan. In her opening match of the main draw, the Ukrainian will face neutral athlete Diana Schneider (19).
The two have faced each other twice before. In 2024, Yastremska lost to Schneider on grass in Bad Homburg, while this year the Ukrainian defeated the Russian in the second round of Roland Garros.
It’s worth noting that Schneider is still competing in a similar tournament in Ningbo, China, where she will play in the semifinals against fellow countrywoman Ekaterina Alexandrova (10) on October 18.
The tournament in Tokyo will take place from October 20 to 26 on hard courts. The reigning champion is Chinese player Zheng Qinwen (11).
Let’s remember that Yastremska was eliminated in the second round in Ningbo, losing to Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina.
