A group of Ukrainian veterans, including two with amputated limbs, successfully swam across the Bosphorus Strait on August 24. They covered 6.5 kilometers from Asia to Europe, demonstrating impressive results, according to the Superhumans military trauma center.
There were 2,800 participants in the swim. The veterans with amputations deliberately did not disclose their disabilities during registration, as it was crucial for them to complete the distance on par with other competitors:
"Just a day before the start, they could have been disqualified, but now we are amazed by their achievements!" – the community noted.
Veteran Pavlo, who returned to swimming just two months after losing his leg in a landmine explosion, completed the distance in 1 hour and 23 minutes.
Triathlete Oleg, who experienced two concussions during combat, tackled one of the world's toughest swims in 1 hour and 24 minutes.
Veteran Oleksandr, who has an above-knee amputation, climbed to Everest Base Camp in April and then swam across the Bosphorus in 1 hour and 30 minutes.
"This is more than just sport. It’s about recovery after war, strength of character, and an example for all of us. Thank you for inspiring us!" – concluded the Superhumans Center.
