The League of Ukrainian Women in America is urging the U.S. presidential administration to reconsider its decisions and fully restore the previously suspended aid to Ukraine.
“We call on the U.S. Congress to actively support Ukraine, restore military and humanitarian aid, and ensure intelligence sharing with this crucial ally that is currently facing aggression,” the statement reads.
The decision by the U.S. could lead to “the breakdown of political norms, international relations, and alliances” that have guaranteed the security of the United States and supported global stability since World War II, the organization emphasizes.
“The sudden and unilateral halt of military assistance to Ukraine will not only deliver a devastating blow to the country but also undermine the reputation of the U.S. and destroy the trust of allies that has been built over 80 years,” the statement notes.
Withdrawal of support for Ukraine demonstrates “the weakness and unreliability of the U.S.,” strengthening the positions of adversaries – Russia, Iran, North Korea, and China – to the detriment of the United States itself.
“This is a catastrophic path not only for Ukraine but also for the security of the U.S.,” the organization stresses.
The U.S. Congress is obligated to defend the system of checks and balances enshrined in the Constitution and to demand that the president adhere to international commitments and comply with enacted laws, the authors of the statement remind.
On March 3, 2025, President Donald Trump ordered the suspension of all military aid to Ukraine – aid that had already been approved by Congress and promised to Ukraine by former U.S. President Joe Biden on behalf of the American people.
