An event titled «Athletic Rehabilitation for Defenders» was held in Kyiv, organized by Denis Silantev as part of the «Free Waves» project. The program aims to assist the physical and psychological recovery of Ukraine's defenders through aquatic activities.
According to Marina Honda, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, swimming is not just a sport but a powerful rehabilitation tool that helps alleviate pain, improve coordination, and restore internal balance.
«This is a vivid example of how sports and rehabilitation can work together to achieve positive outcomes,» she noted.
As reported by the Kyiv Health Department, as of October 1, 2025, 24 medical facilities in the capital provide rehabilitation services to military personnel, including both inpatient and outpatient care. The city offers over 700 rehabilitation beds, and this number continues to grow.
Throughout the first nine months of 2025, over 4,300 military personnel received medical rehabilitation in hospitals, while nearly 1,300 received outpatient care. This includes orthopedic, neurological, and psychological support.
The psychological rehabilitation provided by the Kyiv Military Hub is also crucial, offering individual consultations, art therapy, and sports training in partnership with various organizations.
Military personnel have the chance to engage in adaptive sports, ranging from swimming and rowing to climbing, sailing, and table tennis.
«Rehabilitation is not just about physical recovery. It’s about returning to oneself, to life, to inner peace. We must create conditions where military personnel receive care and support at every stage of this journey,» stressed Marina Honda.
Within the framework of the city program «Support for Kyivans - Defenders of Ukraine», assistance has already been provided to 66,000 individuals among military personnel and veterans, totaling over 1 billion UAH in the first nine months of 2025.
