On September 17 at 19:00, in Kyiv at the “Sens” bookstore (Khreshchatyk, 34), a presentation will take place for the book “Olenivka. Crime. Memory. Broken System”. Authors and witnesses will participate in the event.
This was announced by Gayane Avakyan, co-founder of the Memory Platform Memorial, on her Facebook page.
The book compiles all available testimonies regarding the Russian war crime in Olenivka, which remains unpunished; the deceased are honored by naming them and sharing their stories, organizers noted.
During the meeting, the following topics will be discussed:
- the reconstruction of events before, during, and after the explosion in the penal colony;
- memory as a crucial component of transitional justice;
- the reasons for the international justice system's failure to address Russia's war crimes.
The book was prepared by: The Ukrainians Publishing, the Memory Platform Memorial, and the Media Initiative for Human Rights.
