On August 31, the distinguished Ukrainian animator Radna Sakhaltev passed away at the age of 90, leaving a significant mark on the history of Ukrainian animation.

This sad news was confirmed by Oksana Voloshenyuk, head of the Ukrainian Film Critics Association.

«He made a remarkable contribution to the culture of the country», she emphasized.

Radna Sakhaltev collaborated extensively with renowned director David Cherkasky, creating many animated masterpieces. His most famous works include «The Adventures of Captain Vrungel», «Doctor Aibolit», «Treasure Island», and «How Cossacks Played Hockey».

Other notable films include «The Cheerful Artist», «The Mystery of the Black King», as well as «The Scarecrow» and «A Tale of Moonlight».

He also worked on the artistic design of films such as «Farewell, Pharaohs!» (1974), «Invitation to Dance» (1977), and «Treasure Island» (1987-1988).

Radna Sakhaltev was born on May 15, 1935, became the honored artist of the USSR in 1988, and was named the people's artist of Ukraine in 2008. In 1955, he entered the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography and began his career in Kyiv after graduating in 1961.

He was an active member of the National Unions of Artists and Filmmakers of Ukraine.

In the 1970s and 1980s, he worked for the satirical magazine «Perets» and illustrated children's magazines and books for various publishing houses.
