Over the past year, Ukraine has witnessed a significant rise in cases of gambling addiction. According to the Gambling Addicts Registry, there are currently 12,807 registered individuals.
This information was released by the "Opendatabot" service.
During the last year, the Registry added 9,389 new entries, while 1,496 individuals were removed due to the expiration of their restrictions.
Since its inception, the Registry has included 14,979 individuals, of which 2,172 have already been removed.
It is important to note that 99% of the entries in the Registry are voluntary requests. Individuals are submitting applications for self-restriction to temporarily block their access to gambling establishments. The duration of such self-restriction ranges from six months to three years.
Meanwhile, only 1% of the restrictions are imposed by decisions from the KRAIL. Throughout the existence of the Registry, there have been 169 such decisions, most of which occurred last year.
On average, about 780 individuals were added to the Registry each month last year, which is 2.8 times more than in 2023 when approximately 280 individuals were added monthly. The highest number of self-restriction requests was in April — 1,041, while the lowest was in June — 524.
In the first two months of 2025, 1,719 individuals have already been registered, averaging 860 per month — a 10% increase compared to 2024.
Opendatabot emphasized that there is currently no clear statistics on the actual number of citizens with gambling addiction in Ukraine, and the figures from the Registry do not provide a complete picture, particularly regarding individuals playing in online casinos.
