In Ukraine, six children died and eight others were injured in 2025 due to dangerous railway activities.

This information was shared by Vitaly Romanov, the deputy head of the juvenile police of Ukraine, during a broadcast.

Train surfing is a term used to describe the risky pastime among teenagers where they climb onto train cars to take videos or photos. Another form of this activity involves hanging onto the outside of moving trains.

“The consequences of these activities can be severe, often leading to fatalities. Hence, we emphasize the need for preventive measures,” said Vitaly Romanov.

He recounted two incidents that occurred in Volyn on April 20. In one case, a 16-year-old boy was injured while climbing on a train car.

Hours later, a 13-year-old boy attempted to film a video from the roof of a train car and climbed up using a ladder. He suffered an electric shock.

“In this case, the child received 80% burns and is in critical condition; doctors are fighting for his life,” added Vitaly Romanov.

He also mentioned that train surfing is a phenomenon not just in Ukraine but also in other countries. Often, injuries occur to children from well-to-do families who have not previously come under law enforcement's radar.

It is worth noting that on March 12 in Kyiv, a 12-year-old boy climbed onto an electric train car and suffered severe burns due to an electric shock. Doctors fought for his life for five days, but the teenager passed away.
