The leaders of Canada's political parties, Liberal Party's Mark Carney and Conservative Party's Pierre Poilievre, engaged in a debate over who would better support Ukraine in the event of their victory in the upcoming early parliamentary elections.

This information was reported by "European Truth" based on their debates.

The candidates were asked what Canada could do for Ukraine if the U.S. were to reduce its involvement. Poilievre was the first to respond, stating that Canada should continue its support for Ukraine.

He emphasized that we should not blindly follow the American approach.

"When they make mistakes, we will stand firm and work alongside our allies. Regarding Ukraine, this certainly includes intelligence support, equipment, and arms, but it also means defunding Putin," he pointed out.

According to Poilievre, the Kremlin currently has a monopoly on the European energy market. He accused the Liberal Party of blocking the export of Canadian natural gas from the Atlantic coast.

"I would quickly approve these projects for national security reasons, so we can genuinely supply Canadian natural gas to Europe, break the European dependency on Putin, finance the war, and turn dictator dollars into salaries for our people," he stated.

Carney, on the other hand, asserted that Canada has been a "steadfast ally" of Ukraine, with Canadians welcoming Ukrainians into their homes and supporting them in various ways.

He reminded everyone that during the first month of his premiership, Canada joined the "coalition of the resolute" to support Ukraine when the U.S. stepped back.

"Led by France, the United Kingdom, and European nations, this is an example of how the new world should be, with Canada participating in these areas and providing help," he emphasized.

According to the current Prime Minister of Canada, this also means engaging in open trade.

He pointed out that his opponent, the Conservative leader, "voted against the free trade agreement with Ukraine".

"This represents support for Ukraine. Does Poilievre want to cut foreign aid, including for Ukraine? He did not mention the importance of continuing aid for Ukraine. We must support them," Carney concluded.

It should be noted that Canada is set to hold early parliamentary elections on April 28.

The issue of Canadian-American relations will be a key focus in the campaign, where the Liberals led by Carney will compete against Poilievre's Conservative Party.
