In First May, located in Mykolaiv region, law enforcement officers took action to save a 9-year-old boy who was attacked by a dog. The aggressive animal had to be neutralized.
On April 15, police received a report about a German shepherd that was attacking passersby on the streets of the city, as per the Mykolaiv police.
Officers arrived at the scene and saw that the dog had jumped on the child.
"The police tried to fend off the dog from the boy, but it did not relent, posing a real threat to his life and health. To save the child from the aggressive animal's attack, the officers had to use their firearm and neutralized the dog," the authorities reported.
The police explained that the law grants them the right to use weapons against an animal if it poses a threat to human life or health.
As a result of the attack, the boy sustained minor injuries, including abrasions and bruises. He was taken to the hospital where he received the necessary medical assistance. Currently, his life and health are not in danger.
Authorities established that the dog's owner was a 40-year-old local resident. The man stated that the animal had escaped from his private property. An administrative protocol was drawn up against the owner for violating the rules of keeping dogs, under part 3 of Article 154 of the Code of Administrative Offenses.
The penalty for this article can result in a fine of up to 3400 hryvnias.
