Former Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta, running for president as an independent candidate, announced his intention to prevent the transit of Ukrainian grain through Romanian ports if he wins.

Source: Ponta shared this in an interview with Reuters, as reported by "European Truth".

He stated that he supports aid to Ukraine, particularly through the transit of weapons and training of pilots, but does not endorse the transit of Ukrainian grain.

"In recent years, there has been a policy favoring Ukrainian grain in terms of access to port facilities, which has harmed Romanian farmers significantly," – the politician explained.

In a broader context, Ponta expressed approval for the current "radical changes" in the USA and promised to implement a "Romania first" policy if elected.

This policy includes supporting Moldova and the Western Balkans' accession to the EU, as well as fostering a strategic partnership with Poland and Turkey, the main military force in the Black Sea.

52-year-old Victor Ponta, a former leftist prime minister, has shifted his views to the far right. He stepped down from the premiership in 2015 following a deadly nightclub fire.

According to recent opinion polls, Ponta has a chance to advance to the second round of the Romanian presidential elections alongside ultra-right opposition leader George Simion.
