The new draft of the Labor Code introduces modern work formats such as remote, home-based, and flexible schedules. Deputy Minister of Economy Daria Marchak stated that the annual paid vacation is set to increase to 28 days, in line with European standards.
The number of types of employment contracts will rise from six to nine.
Remote work will be classified as a distinct type of employment contract, requiring agreement between the employer and the employee.
Additionally, remote work can be combined with office work. For instance, an employee might work two days in the office and three days remotely, as stipulated in the contract.
The Code also prioritizes remote work for specific social categories, such as pregnant women or parents of young children. In cases of bullying or discrimination, workers may temporarily switch to remote work as a protective measure.
Plans include eliminating outdated restrictions, adapting legislation to contemporary conditions. For example, women with children under three will no longer face restrictions on night work.
The new Labor Code also enhances leave guarantees, ensuring 28 days of paid vacation per year, which aligns with European norms.
Once the new code is enacted, employers will not need to renegotiate contracts, but they will have a year to formalize any new employment relationships in writing.
The draft of the new Labor Code of Ukraine was approved on January 7, 2026, and will come into effect after being passed by the Verkhovna Rada.
