In Ukraine, October 27 is celebrated as the Day of the Ukrainian Language and Literacy.

This date was established in 1997 through the initiative of civil organizations, with then-president Leonid Kuchma signing a decree that officially initiated the holiday.

Until 2023, the celebration was held on November 9, honoring the memory of Nestor the Chronicler. However, after transitioning to a new church calendar, the holiday was moved to October 27.

Every year in Ukraine, various events promote the Ukrainian language. One of the traditions is the National Unity Dictation, which this year will be conducted by writer Yevheniya Kuznetsova, with actress Natalia Sumska reading the text.

Last year, over half a million participants joined the Dictation, and around 10,000 letters for verification were sent from more than 30 countries worldwide.
