Repair efforts for the damaged external power lines at Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant have commenced after a four-week disconnection. Rafael Grossi, director general of the IAEA, confirmed this in a post on social media platform X.
Grossi indicated that these repair works were made possible through the establishment of local ceasefire zones, allowing for the continuation of restoration efforts at the NPP.
“Restoring the external power supply is crucial for nuclear safety. Both sides have cooperated constructively with IAEA to implement this complex repair plan,” the post stated.

It is worth noting that on September 23, the last external power line to the NPP was disconnected. The backup line was damaged by Russian forces back in May, and since then, the occupiers have failed to provide safety guarantees for the repair teams from NEC “Ukrenergo”. Energoatom reported that the external power line for Zaporizhia NPP in the territory controlled by Ukraine is operational. The Russians deliberately do not reconnect the plant to the power supply, continuing to spread disinformation against Ukraine. On October 2, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga stated that Russia has deliberately disconnected Zaporizhia NPP from Ukraine’s power grid and is preparing for its reconnection to its own energy system.
