Today, September 23, Ukraine joins the world in celebrating International Sign Language Day. This day emphasizes the importance of every individual's right to linguistic identity, access to information, and full participation in social life.
Sign language is not just a means of communication; it is a vital key to equal opportunities. For hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians, it serves as a means of expression, allowing them to gain knowledge, build careers, engage in cultural life, and shape their future.
The official recognition of Ukrainian sign language is crucial, and its further development remains a key task for the state. Recognizing and promoting sign language is essential for creating a society where everyone feels dignified. We are committed to investing efforts in language policy to make Ukraine genuinely barrier-free. This is our collective journey towards ensuring equality and respect for all.
Let us remember that the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine is implementing the National Strategy for Creating Barrier-Free Space in Ukraine until 2030, initiated by Olena Zelenska, which includes priority projects like «Information without Barriers» and «Culture without Barriers».
