Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, has just arrived in the capital of the United States for crucial discussions with the American president and European leaders.
He shared this update on his Telegram channel.
"I have already reached Washington. Tomorrow, I will meet with President Trump. We will also be in talks with European leaders. I sincerely thank the U.S. President for the invitation," he stated in his post.
Zelensky emphasized that we all desire a swift and reliable end to this war. Peace must be enduring, unlike the past when Ukraine was forced to cede Crimea and parts of Donbas, which merely served as a launchpad for further aggression from Russia. He also reminded about the inadequacy of the so-called «security guarantees» from 1994 that failed to materialize. Certainly, Ukrainians did not relinquish Crimea, just as they did not surrender Kyiv, Odesa, or Kharkiv after 2022.
"We are fighting for our land, for our independence. Our soldiers are currently achieving success in Donetsk and Sumy regions. I am confident we will defend Ukraine, ensure its security, and our people will always be grateful to President Trump, all Americans, and every partner for their support and invaluable assistance. Russia must end this war that it started. I hope that our unity with America and our European friends will compel Russia towards genuine peace," the president highlighted.
As previously reported, on Monday there is a scheduled meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. Additionally, a visit by European leaders to the White House is anticipated to discuss possibilities for ending the war in Ukraine.
