It is reported that this new system will also apply to Ukrainian citizens.
The EES will digitally record entries and exits, as well as passport data, fingerprints, and facial images of non-EU travelers visiting EU member states for short stays.
"Ensuring reliable protection of our external borders is crucial for the European Union. The new entry-exit system will help us ensure that non-EU citizens traveling to Europe comply with our regulations. This will enhance the safety of our borders and improve border control efficiency," said Kaare Dybvad Bek, the Danish Minister for Immigration and Integration, who currently holds the presidency of the EU Council.
This system will allow relevant authorities, from border guards to law enforcement, to access data necessary for verifying the identity of third-country nationals and ensuring they adhere to the permitted stay in the Schengen Area. Consequently, the EES will significantly reduce the likelihood of identity fraud and overstaying in the Schengen Zone.
