Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the operators of service 112, numerous lives have been saved, tragedies avoided, and assistance provided in the most challenging circumstances.
Service 112 has been operational in Ukraine for two years. During this time, operators have processed over 7 million calls. This was reported by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Igor Klymenko.
One notable story involves a call from a 12-year-old girl whose apartment experienced a gas leak. Her mother lost consciousness, leaving the child alone with the danger. A calm and clear conversation with the operator, precise instructions, and rapid response helped prevent a disaster.
Another case involved a man who attempted to take his own life. The operator spoke with him for over an hour, calming him down and calling in specialists. He was successfully saved.
The hotline also receives calls from foreigners — nearly 700 such calls have been recorded. 59 operators speak foreign languages: English, Polish, Spanish, French, Chinese, and others.
There is also an option to communicate in sign language via video call. Such calls have exceeded 31 thousand.
“The service opens doors for veterans. Already, 17 defenders who can no longer serve due to injuries or health issues have become operators for line 112. Their experience and resilience are invaluable in a job where every second counts,” noted Klymenko.
Service centers are already operational in Kyiv, Lviv, and Dnipro. A new center will soon open in Odesa.
