In 2025, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to sign a contract for the acquisition of 100 new coaches, including a pilot batch of 5 units of the latest generation for future scaling.

According to the company's press service, these new coaches will incorporate advanced technologies, replacing outdated systems dating back to the 1970s, including coal heating and air conditioning that only operates while the train is in motion.

Ukrzaliznytsia highlights that the new batch will require less maintenance personnel and will accommodate up to 44 passengers in a single compartment, significantly improving operational efficiency.

Additionally, the coaches will feature an increased body width and enhanced internal layout, allowing for a sleeping space length of up to 2.2 meters. They will also be equipped with pneumatic suspension for a smoother ride.

The coaches will include automatic sliding doors and level-access inter-carriage connections, improving passenger convenience. Control of all systems will be managed from the train conductor's compartment.

According to Ukrzaliznytsia, the new coaches will transition from coal heating to fully electric heating with improved individual temperature control in each compartment, allowing for climate control even during long stops.

The first 5 new coaches will be compartment coaches that can be transformed into sleeper coaches, with one being inclusive and equipped with an electric lift and ramp for passengers with disabilities.

Passengers will enjoy the following benefits in these coaches:

  • Charging sockets with USB and type-c connections, as well as wireless charging;
  • A movable table for upper bunks;
  • An additional sink in the corridor.

The expected lifespan of these coaches is 50 years, thanks to the use of stainless steel, which is 20 years longer than standard Ukrzaliznytsia coaches.

The estimated cost of one coach is 95 million 600 thousand hryvnias, which is lower than similar acquisitions in European railway companies. The cost of servicing one passenger seat in these coaches remains nearly unchanged throughout their operational life.

The delivery period for the coaches is set at 2.5 years from the moment the manufacturer receives the advance payment for production.
