Ukraine set to build its first fully-fledged European gauge railway: project details

"The European Union has decided to provide Ukraine with 76 million euros in grant assistance for the construction of the European gauge railway between Lviv and the border with Poland. The project by Ukrzaliznytsia has been approved by the Coordination Committee of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF)," the announcement states.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that this will be the first complete section of the future direct railway connection with Europe on the Sknyliv – Mostyska II route with a gauge standard of 1435 mm.

"This is a clear signal that Ukraine is already part of the European transport network, and our integration is not a future prospect but is happening now. It is a critically important project, especially amid the ongoing war, as it concerns the country’s ability to ensure stability, movement, and cooperation with partners," Oleksiy Kubel commented on the significance of this decision.
