Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal met with Polish President Andrzej Duda to discuss crucial matters regarding support for Ukraine in strengthening its air defense and the necessity of increasing sanctions against the Russian Federation.
Shmyhal expressed gratitude to Duda for his support of Ukraine in various areas, including defense, humanitarian issues, and the economy, amid the aggression from Russia.
Additionally, the Prime Minister congratulated the Polish president on receiving a Ukrainian award - the Order of Freedom, which is a significant recognition of his contribution to strengthening Ukraine.
Shmyhal noted that Duda reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the development of bilateral relations between Ukraine and Poland.
The meeting also addressed the daily attacks by Russia on Ukrainian cities using drones.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Russia is increasing the number of attacks, making the enhancement of air defense a top priority for Ukraine, and expressed hope for Poland's assistance in this regard.
Other topics discussed included the situation on the front lines and expected support from Europe, particularly through new security initiatives.
Shmyhal stressed the importance of implementing new sanctions against Russia, which need to be more effective to apply pressure on the aggressor.
The issue of confiscating frozen Russian assets was also raised, highlighting the need for a mechanism to utilize these assets for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Expressing the importance of solidarity, Shmyhal thanked Poland for its support during difficult times, emphasizing that together they are stronger.
