The President of Ukraine has declared May 27 as the Special Operations Forces Day.

This date commemorates the courage of the special forces soldiers who in 2014 successfully liberated the new terminal of Donetsk Airport from enemy forces.

“In honoring the bravery and heroism of the Special Operations Forces in their fight for freedom and territorial integrity, I decree: to establish the Special Operations Forces Day to be celebrated annually on May 27,” the decree states.

This decree takes effect upon publication.

Additionally, July 29 has been designated as a day of remembrance for fallen Special Operations Forces soldiers.
