During a massive rocket assault by Russia in Chernivtsi, medical personnel fought to save a young girl named Zlata, who suddenly stopped breathing. The resuscitation efforts took place amid the sounds of explosions.
This was reported by Marta Levchenko, a charity worker and founder of the "Butterfly House" medical center.
"Zlata lost consciousness during the strikes, and the doctors, despite the danger to their lives, could not take cover. The resuscitation process was prolonged due to the ongoing threat," she shared regarding the difficult situation in the hospice for sick children.
According to her, other children were sheltered during the alarms in a pre-prepared safe area.
"Most of the children in the 'Butterfly House' were evacuated from conflict zones and have suffered traumatic experiences, causing them to fear even the sound of explosions, which sets them back in their recovery process," Marta Levchenko added.
The hospice team is currently calling for donations to help install metal shutters on the windows of the resuscitation unit.
It is important to note that on the night of July 12, Russian forces launched 26 cruise missiles and 597 drones against cities in Ukraine. Despite intercepting most of the aerial targets, some struck civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings.
Chernivtsi has become one of the epicenters of the Russian attack, resulting in the deaths of two people, including local official Svyatoslav Lazarenko.
Currently, doctors in the city's medical facilities are fighting for the lives of four seriously injured individuals, with one woman reported in extremely critical condition. Additionally, ten residents of the region sustained minor injuries and received assistance on-site.
