Today, February 10, around 04:15, police received a report from a social worker stating that her wards in the village of Sudobychi, living in an abandoned school, were hearing screams in the hallway.
Officers established that at approximately 04:10, a conflict arose in a shared residence for internally displaced persons between a 72-year-old native of Donetsk region and other residents over domestic issues, escalating into a fight. During the altercation, the man began to strike five individuals with a hammer and an axe.
As a result of the injuries sustained, five citizens died at the scene: two men aged 60 and 68, two women aged 81 and 78 from Donetsk, and a 56-year-old woman from Kirovohrad region.
The first responders were patrol officers who arrived at the scene and apprehended the attacker.
Subsequently, investigators, under the procedural leadership of the prosecutor's office, detained the 72-year-old suspect in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Currently, investigative and operational groups from Dubno police department and the main department, as well as forensic laboratory specialists, are working at the scene, along with the leadership of the GUNP. The Dubno district and Rivne regional prosecutor's offices are overseeing the proceedings.
Investigators have initiated a pre-trial investigation under paragraph 1 part 2 of Article 115 (intentional murder of two or more persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The issue of notifying the suspect of the charges and selecting a preventive measure is currently being addressed.
