A woman has been arrested in Kyiv for being an agent of the Belarusian Committee of State Security since 2015. She attempted to integrate into Ukrainian intelligence to spy on foreign legionnaires. This was reported by the GUR and the SBU.
The name of the suspect has not been disclosed. However, media sources indicate that it concerns journalist Inna Kardash. A native of Minsk, she initially worked in Ukraine at the «112 Channel» owned by Viktor Medvedchuk, and later (until 2024) at the «Interfax-Ukraine» agency. According to some reports, even Lukashenko was aware of her activities in Kyiv.
According to case materials, she was dispatched from Belarus for undercover work in Ukraine in 2020. During a special operation that lasted several months, SBU employees and the internal security of GUR documented the criminal activities of the Belarusian spy and engaged her in operational games, feeding her disinformation disguised as classified data.
During the full-scale invasion, her supervisor instructed her to travel to one of the EU countries for additional training. She crossed the border under a fabricated pretext of undergoing a medical examination.
She received orders from Belarusian intelligence to gather information about citizens of Belarus and Russia fighting on the side of Ukraine. The spy was also supposed to establish connections with employees of the Chinese embassy in Kyiv to collect information about the activities of Chinese diplomats in Ukraine.
Upon returning to Kyiv, the agent attempted to get a position in one of the military intelligence units, where she came under the scrutiny of GUR's internal security. During the operational game, her attempts to select potential candidates for recruitment into the KGB's intelligence apparatus were recorded.
After gathering a complete evidentiary base, the spy was arrested near her residence in Kyiv. The SBU investigators have now informed her of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 114 of the Criminal Code — espionage. She faces 10 to 15 years in prison with or without confiscation of property.
