Police patrolling Khreshchatyk in central Kyiv discovered a man unconscious on the pavement. They provided first aid and called for an ambulance along with an investigative team to ascertain the details of the incident.
Doctors diagnosed the 30-year-old victim with severe head injuries, including a traumatic brain injury and a fracture of the temporal bone.
Investigators determined that a local athlete engaged in mixed martial arts was involved in the attack. A conflict arose between them, during which the assailant punched the victim in the face, causing him to lose consciousness and fall.
The attacker was apprehended at the scene in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and charged under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional infliction of serious bodily harm. The penalty for this offense can be up to eight years of imprisonment.
