The Security Service of Ukraine has detained an individual working for Russian military intelligence who was preparing to blow up a major gas pipeline in eastern Ukraine. The occupiers aimed to cut off heating supplies to numerous households in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions. This information was disclosed by SBU representatives.
The agent was set to plant a homemade explosive device at a critical junction of gas lines that provide heating for both regions. The perpetrator turned out to be an unemployed resident of Kharkiv who drew the enemy's attention due to his anti-Ukrainian comments on social media.
He was contacted by a fighter from the so-called “DNR special unit,” which operates against Ukraine on the eastern front and collaborates with the Russian GRU. Following his instructions, the agent purchased components for explosives and crafted a bomb himself. For the sake of secrecy, he set up an underground workshop in his parents' house in the Berestiv district of Kharkiv region.
SBU investigators have charged the accomplice under Part 1 of Article 14 and Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code — preparation for committing a terrorist act by prior agreement among a group of individuals. The issue of further qualification of his actions regarding state treason in wartime conditions is being considered.
