The police in Kyiv received a report from a woman who stated that an unknown man had committed sexual violence against her young daughter.
Within a day, police operatives searched for the perpetrator, who turned out to be a 22-year-old resident of Sumy currently living in Kyiv. The police detained the suspect under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the defendant connected with an 11-year-old schoolgirl on social media and communicated with her for two weeks. He sought common topics to gain the girl's trust before inviting her to meet in an abandoned building, where he later committed the sexual offense.
To evade responsibility, the offender deleted the chat history from the child's phone as well as his contact.
Investigators from the Shevchenkivskyi police department, under the procedural guidance of the Shevchenkivskyi district prosecutor's office, notified the suspect of charges under Part 4 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - rape of a person under the age of fourteen. The Shevchenkivskyi district court in the capital chose a preventive measure for him - detention without alternative. He faces up to 15 years of imprisonment.
