Three men from different regions of Ukraine attempted to illegally cross the border through Odesa. However, their journey was cut short when they were detected by a border service dog named Vichchi. This was reported on Sunday, November 9, by the Southern Regional Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
Military personnel from the border service unit «Kodima» of the Podilsk squad used surveillance technology to spot suspicious movements towards the border.
It turned out that residents of Kyiv, Vinnytsia, and Volyn regions were trying to illegally cross the Transnistrian segment of the Ukrainian-Moldovan border. They were assisted by an administrator of a Telegram channel, who remotely guided the «travelers». The men had paid 42 thousand US dollars in advance to his crypto wallet without any guarantees of success.
During their apprehension, upon hearing the border guards' voice commands to stop, the offenders attempted to flee. However, the service dog Vichchi expertly performed its duty and helped to catch the escapees.
Protocols have been drawn up against the offenders for committing an administrative violation under Article 204-1 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses. The cases have been sent to court.
