In Kyiv, police have announced that a plastic surgeon is under investigation following a tragic incident. A 28-year-old woman suffered cardiac arrest due to improper preparation of anesthetic. The investigation revealed that the doctor incorrectly assessed the composition of the solution, leading to the patient's death.
According to the Podil Police Department, during the summer of 2023, while performing a plastic surgery at a medical center in the capital, the doctor failed to meet professional standards, violating protocols regarding the use of medications.
As a result of the incorrect preparation of the anesthetic solution, the patient experienced cardiac arrest during a buttock implant surgery. Despite resuscitation efforts, the life of the 28-year-old woman could not be saved.
A forensic medical examination conducted as part of the investigation found that the anesthetic contained three times the permissible therapeutic dose of the drug, which directly caused the patient’s death. Additionally, the medication should not have been used by the doctor and was not documented in the medical records.
Investigators, under the supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, have charged the 50-year-old man under part 1 of article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for improper performance of medical duties resulting in severe consequences for the patient.
The penalties for this article include imprisonment for up to two years and a prohibition on holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities for up to five years.
