The police in Kyiv have arrested a 40-year-old man from Ternopil who attempted to send dangerous ammunition as souvenirs. The explosive package detonated during inspection at the sorting center. A criminal case has been initiated.
Recall that last night in the Solomyansky district of the capital, an explosion occurred while inspecting a package at "Ukpost." Five individuals were injured: postal workers and customs officials.
The investigative team, along with bomb technicians and dog handlers, discovered remnants of a shell. Authorities identified the sender as a 40-year-old resident of Ternopil. Another dangerous package containing ammunition was also found at the sorting center.
Kyiv police, in cooperation with Ternopil police, apprehended the man at his residence under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. During a search of his apartment, another dozen ammunition items were seized.
It has been established that the man crafted souvenirs from ammunition, engraving them, and sent them via postal services.
Investigators have opened a case under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal handling of weapons, military supplies, or explosives. The article's sanctions prescribe imprisonment for up to seven years.
Kyiv police remind: ammunition, weapons, explosives, and their parts are not souvenirs or toys! Their storage, transfer, or mailing is dangerous for life and carries criminal liability.
