The counterintelligence unit of the Security Service of Ukraine has detained two individuals acting on behalf of Russian intelligence, coordinating enemy fire in border areas.
The agents shared a common handler from the FSB, but operated in different regions: Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk. Their primary objective was to identify the positions of air defense and the locations of Ukrainian troops.
Among those arrested is a security chief from a leading university in Dnipro, recruited through a relative working for Russian intelligence.
To carry out their tasks, he engaged a friend who heads the water supply department in Huliaipole, located near the front lines.
During air raid alerts, the agents traveled in vehicles to gather information about Ukrainian air defense.
They also discreetly inquired among acquaintances about the locations of Ukrainian defense forces, later verifying the geolocations obtained.
Both agents were arrested by the SBU, and evidence of their collaboration with enemy intelligence was seized.
Investigators have charged them under articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine pertaining to treason. The suspects are currently in custody without bail and face life imprisonment along with asset confiscation.
The operation was carried out with the oversight of the Zaporizhia regional prosecutor's office.
