The Kyiv city prosecutor's office has completed an audit of all criminal cases related to fatal road accidents that have been under investigation for several years. As a result of the review, charges have been brought against seven drivers. Among them is a 47-year-old Tesla driver whose actions led to the death of a police officer. This information was released by the prosecutor's office.
The fatal accident occurred on March 2, 2023, at the intersection of Obolon Avenue, where Tesla, Audi A7, and Toyota Camry collided. As a result of the crash, the driver and passenger of the Audi A7 sustained serious injuries, and the 22-year-old passenger later died in the hospital.
Both victims were police employees. To ensure an objective investigation, the case was assigned to the investigators of the TDBR in Kyiv.
More than 10 forensic examinations were conducted within the criminal proceedings. Based on their results, the actions of the Tesla driver were qualified under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code — violation of traffic safety rules, resulting in the death of the victim. The maximum penalty under this article ranges from 3 to 8 years in prison.
It was established that the man, while driving the Tesla and ignoring traffic signals, collided at high speed with the Audi A7, which, in turn, collided with the Toyota Camry in an uncontrolled state. Consequently, the Tesla driver was served with a notice of suspicion.
