The counterintelligence unit of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has apprehended another agent of Russian special services in the Kharkiv region. The perpetrator was tracking the coordinates of Ukrainian defense forces, preparing strikes using heavy aviation, drones, and artillery.
According to the investigation materials, the enemy was particularly interested in the locations of the 3rd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which are engaged in continuous combat in one of the most critical areas of the eastern front – Izium.
The investigation revealed that a 35-year-old local laborer had collaborated with Russian agents.
To gather intelligence, the agent attempted to ingratiate himself with Ukrainian soldiers by offering assistance in organizing their daily lives.
He also took photos and videos of significant concentrations of personnel and military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, marking them on Google Maps.
SBU operatives uncovered the agent at an early stage of his reconnaissance activities, documented his crimes, and conducted comprehensive measures to safeguard the positions of Ukrainian troops on this front.
At the final stage of the special operation, he was arrested. His smartphone containing photos and videos of Ukrainian military objects, which he intended to send to his handler, was seized.
SBU investigators notified the agent of suspicion under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed during martial law).
The perpetrator is in custody and faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation. Comprehensive measures were carried out under the procedural guidance of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
