Recently, an incident in Kyiv nearly resulted in a man's death due to a conflict that arose during alcohol consumption. The suspect now faces up to eight years in prison for this offense.
A few days ago, residents of a high-rise building in the Shevchenko district contacted the police, reporting that a wounded man was lying on the stairwell and in need of help. An investigative team and medical professionals were dispatched immediately to the scene.
Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered that the victim was a 64-year-old local man visiting his 45-year-old friend. The men had been consuming alcohol together when a verbal conflict erupted. The apartment owner then began to assault the 64-year-old guest with his hands and feet, ultimately grabbing a metal weight plate and striking the victim multiple times on the head.
The victim was hospitalized with numerous injuries and is currently in critical condition.
Officers from the Shevchenko police department arrested the offender under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine and, under the guidance of the Shevchenko District Prosecutor's Office, informed him of the suspicion under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional grievous bodily harm.
According to the charges, the man faces up to eight years in prison. Investigators are requesting that the suspect be held in custody during the investigation.
