An auto service employee in Kyiv was involved in the theft of a client's car and subsequently got into a traffic accident. The police quickly located and apprehended him, bringing charges against him. He has now received a court sentence.
The incident occurred in May of this year. A local resident reported to the police that his Skoda Octavia, left for servicing, had gone missing. During the investigation, law enforcement identified a previously convicted 24-year-old auto service worker as being involved in the vehicle's disappearance.
The man took advantage of access to the keys, drove the car, and went for a ride with a friend. He caused a traffic accident, abandoned the vehicle, and attempted to flee to avoid consequences. Officers quickly tracked him down and arrested him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators from the Solomianskyi Police Department informed the suspect of charges under Part 3 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for unlawful seizure of a vehicle. The preliminary investigation was completed, and the indictment was sent to court.
The Solomianskyi District Court of Kyiv found the man guilty and imposed a sentence of eight years in prison.
