The Security Service of Ukraine has arrested two agents of the Russian Federation who were preparing to carry out terrorist attacks in Dnipropetrovsk and Khmelnytskyi regions. The enemy had recruited them via Telegram channels while they were searching for «easy jobs». Both individuals received geolocations of stash sites containing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from their Russian handlers. For instance, a 19-year-old resident of Dnipropetrovsk was caught attempting to detonate an explosive on a Ukrainian soldier's vehicle. She hid the IED under the wheel of the parked car and set up a camera on a tree to capture the explosion.

In Khmelnytskyi, a 16-year-old college student was discovered planning to blow up a railway line that a cargo train of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was set to traverse. The girl was supposed to plant explosives near the railway line, which the Russians intended to activate remotely as the military convoy approached. To monitor the military train's movements, she equipped the location with a remote-access video camera for the invaders.

Both individuals were apprehended in the act while preparing for their attacks. Explosive devices and smartphones containing evidence of contacts with Russian intelligence were seized at the scene. The SBU has charged the detainees under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Part 2 of Article 15, Part 2 of Article 258 (completed attempt to commit a terrorist act by prior conspiracy of a group of individuals);
  • Part 3 of Article 114-2 (unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during martial law).

The offenders face up to 12 years in prison with property confiscation. The operation was conducted by SBU officers in collaboration with regional prosecutor's offices.
