In Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, law enforcement officers apprehended a young man who tried to deceive the wife of a mobilized soldier by promising to withdraw him from military service for $7000. Prosecutors have filed charges against him.

The serviceman, stationed in a military unit, fell victim to a scammer who, posing as a law enforcement officer, claimed he could use his connections to secure an order for the soldier's withdrawal.

According to the scheme, after being withdrawn, the soldier was to be declared unfit for service due to health reasons, and subsequently removed from the military registry. The fraudster valued his services at $7000.

However, he was arrested during the receipt of a first payment of $5000 in accordance with Ukrainian law.

The suspect's actions were classified under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including the receipt of unlawful benefits and extortion, committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy.
