The counterintelligence unit of the Security Service of Ukraine has apprehended a Russian special services agent within the Armed Forces in the Kharkiv region.

The suspect is a 26-year-old soldier who was recruited via a Telegram channel that promised easy earnings. Preliminary reports indicate that he agreed to cooperate with the enemy due to financial issues related to gambling debts. Investigations revealed that he was directing Russian airstrikes and artillery towards the positions of his unit, which was holding back the aggressor's advance near Velykyi Burluk. After adjusting enemy fire, the suspect would leave the shelling zone under various pretenses. During these 'exits,' he also collected information about the locations of nearby Ukrainian military units for the FSB.

The SBU's military counterintelligence caught the agent 'in the act' as he attempted to record the location of Ukrainian defenders at the front.

During a search of the 'mole,' a smartphone containing evidence of his collaboration with the enemy was seized. The Security Service also identified the Russian curator of this agent as Oleksii Leonidovych Suprunenko, a native of Sevastopol, who had previously served in Ukrainian law enforcement but betrayed his oath.

SBU investigators in the Kharkiv region have notified the agent of suspicion under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law). The curator of the agent has also been charged with state treason.

The detained agent remains in custody without the right to bail and faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation. The operations were conducted under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Defense in the Eastern region.
