Counterintelligence operations by the Security Service of Ukraine, in coordination with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, have thwarted another attempt by Russian forces to obtain data on the aviation infrastructure of the Ukrainian military.
During a special operation in the Lviv region, an Air Force major was arrested, who turned out to be a Russian agent. He was recruited through his ex-wife, who is working for the aggressor in Melitopol.
According to the case materials, the subversive activities of the "mole" were coordinated by FSB officer Alexander Belodedov.
The agent's main task was to gather information about Ukrainian military aviation, specifically, the coordinates of airfields and technical maintenance centers of the Armed Forces.
If successful, the occupiers planned to launch missile strikes on these targets.
Employees of the SBU timely uncovered the "mole," documented his contacts with Russian intelligence, and arrested him.
The Security Service also implemented comprehensive measures to protect the locations of Ukrainian forces.
Based on the collected evidence, SBU investigators notified the agent of suspicion under part 2 of Article 28 and part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed by a group of persons in a state of war).
The perpetrator is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Additionally, his ex-wife, who is currently in the temporarily occupied southern part of Ukraine, has also received a notice of suspicion for treason during wartime.
The special operation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
