In the village of Velykyi Berezny in Transcarpathia, local residents attacked border guards during a routine inspection. As a result of the incident, two servicemen were injured.

Details: According to the border guards, the incident took place on the evening of May 29 in one of the Romani settlements in Velykyi Berezny. Border guards, along with police and national guards, were checking information about potential organizers of a scheme to smuggle conscripts across the Ukrainian-Slovak border.

Quote from the State Border Guard Service: "During the questioning, a group of citizens began to actively resist law enforcement. The instigators of the conflict encouraged others to commit illegal acts, involving women and minors. As a result, stones and bricks were thrown at the border guards and their vehicles".

Details: To stop the assault, the security forces used special means, including opening fire with firearms.

Two border guards who sustained moderate injuries were hospitalized. Two service vehicles were also damaged.

The National Police reported that one of the attackers has been detained, and measures are ongoing to identify other individuals involved in the assault.

A criminal proceeding has been initiated under part 2 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("Threat or violence against a law enforcement officer") and Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("Intentional destruction or damage to property").
