A tragic incident took place in the Carpathians, near the Dragobrat meadow, where a tourist from Kyiv died while hiking. The man fell from a snow cornice.
The information was confirmed by the press service of the State Emergency Service in the Transcarpathian region.
The incident occurred around 14:00 on Sunday, May 18, in the Dragobrat area of the Rakhiv district. Police received a report that a man born in 1964 had fallen from a snow cornice while following a hiking route.
Rescuers from the mountain search and rescue units of the villages of Kvasy and Yasinya were dispatched to the scene. The body of the deceased was found a few hours later.
"At 18:30, rescuers recovered the body from the snowdrift and later transported it to the Svydovets area, where it was handed over to the police," the report stated.
The man was accompanied by five other tourists, who were escorted to the shelter "Peremychka." None of them required medical assistance.
It is worth noting that in January of this year, a tourist died at the Dragobrat resort while skiing. The girl lost her balance on the ski lift and fell, colliding with a sharp part of the protective fence.
