Recently, social media and news outlets circulated information regarding a possible reduction of school breaks for students in 2025.

The Ministry of Education has refuted these claims, explaining that the duration of the academic year is determined separately by each school.

The Ministry confirmed that according to government regulations, the academic year runs from September 2, 2024, to June 30, 2025, but these dates are not mandatory for all educational institutions.

“These dates, as well as the structure of the academic year and break periods, are determined by the schools themselves. This is not a new practice: such flexibility has been provided by law for many years, even before the onset of the war,” the ministry stated.

Schools have the autonomy to decide when to conclude the academic year for their students.

Meanwhile, faculty councils consider:

  • the total academic workload;
  • the security situation in the region;
  • individual student needs;
  • teacher readiness.
