In the Kyiv region, legal proceedings have started against a 63-year-old woman suspected of murdering her grandson, who was only a week old. She faces a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
This was reported by the Main Department of the National Police and the regional prosecutor's office.
Authorities discovered that in November 2024, the grandmother was at home with the newborn.
"While alone with the infant, she inflicted injuries to the head and body using a wooden chair. She then moved the boy to the bedroom, where he later died from his injuries," the prosecutor's office stated.
The investigation revealed that the woman was under the influence of alcohol.
Prosecutors have submitted an indictment against the grandmother for the intentional murder of a minor, committed with particular cruelty (part 2 of article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). She could face 15 years of imprisonment.
Currently, the accused is in custody without the option of bail.
Previously, we reported on a 27-year-old man in Odesa who systematically abused his two-year-old son and two-month-old daughter. They were found to have various degrees of bodily injuries.
