In 2025, Kyiv's forestry facilities planted over 234,000 seedlings, creating 9.1 hectares of new forest areas. The majority consisted of coniferous species, totaling over 179,000.
According to the Department of Environmental Protection of the Kyiv City State Administration, nearly 80,000 seedlings were planted in the autumn alone, including about 52,000 coniferous species. The primary species of this campaign were oak and Scots pine, which create stable forest stands for the capital. In just a few years, the planted seedlings will transform into young trees, forming the basis of a renewed forest.
During the year, the following were planted:
- Municipal Enterprise “Svyatoshyn Forestry” — 149,400 seedlings
- Municipal Enterprise “Darnytsia Forestry” — 41,400 seedlings
- Municipal Enterprise “Koncha-Zaspa” — 43,400 seedlings
“We continue our work on forest restoration: in the context of full-scale war, when Ukraine's environment suffers significant losses, our task is to preserve and enhance Kyiv's green resources. The forestry enterprises use seedlings grown in local nurseries, which are better suited to the urban climate. This is painstaking work, the results of which will be visible in a few years when these trees become part of the capital's green zones,” stated acting director of the Department, Pavlo Ivanov.
It is worth noting that the total area of land managed by Kyiv's forestry enterprises within the city is nearly 32,000 hectares.
