The capital of Ukraine is bracing for the most difficult heating season in history due to the ongoing full-scale war. This was reported by Kyiv's mayor Vitali Klitschko on his Telegram channel.
"We are currently facing serious challenges as the enemy persistently attacks energy facilities. Massive drone and rocket strikes are aimed at destroying critical infrastructure. In these conditions, the air defense systems are struggling to function effectively. This is evident in other cities such as Chernihiv, Slavutych, Sumy, and many more that have already faced critical situations," Klitschko stated.
He also mentioned that the Kyiv City Council needs to adopt important budget decisions that will allow the implementation of new security measures. Specifically, this involves modernizing water supply and drainage systems using alternative power sources. According to Klitschko, funds will need to be reallocated from other budget items.
"The Kyiv City Council will also appeal to the Verkhovna Rada for increased funding to strengthen the capital's defense capabilities. It is crucial to return the funds that were taken from Kyiv's budget," the mayor emphasized.
Klitschko clarified that these funds should be used for enhanced protection of critical facilities, including engineering and energy infrastructure, as well as military sites located within the capital.
