During the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of Germany's NATO membership in Brussels, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier stated that the country will continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine, remaining its strongest ally in Europe, while also investing in its own armed forces and defense industry.

Details: "We will continue to be Ukraine's strongest support in Europe, defending its freedom, sovereignty, and European future", – emphasized Steinmeier.

"Today, as Putin's war against Ukraine rages on, and the United States exerts strong pressure on its European allies, Germany, as I believe, is in a decisive position. That is why I reach out to you and your allies not just with gratitude but also with a call for immediate action", – he stressed.

"Germany is being called to act – and we have heard this call, we understood the message", – he added, addressing NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte with assurance that "you can count on us".

"We will continue to strengthen our armed forces – the Bundeswehr – and increase our investments in the defense industry. We will diligently work to fulfill our commitments under NATO's regional plans", – the German president underscored.
